Hong Shing Chinese Restaurant

1
195 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M5G 1C7

Hong Shing is always open until 5 am, so since you’re up anyway, head on over and tuck into everything from classic Chinese, northern Szechuan and southern Cantonese dishes, to traditional style BBQ meats.

Linwood Essentials

2
930 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M6J 1G6

The cocktail menu is pages long and features fascinating concoctions that will no doubt top your own best list this year. They are as impressive as the food, which doesn’t happen nearly often enough at a bar. In fact, this could be the best Spanish tapas place in the city if it wasn’t so adamant on the large cocktail program (Don't change a thing, Linwood Essentials - it's just that this is restaurant quality food, not mere bar fare).

Rush Lane & Co.

3
563 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M5V 2B6

Rush Lane is another original and intriguing bar that’s open until 2am. Featuring “Canada’s only laboratory dedicated to cocktail alchemy,” the drinks here contain a lot of ingredients you’ve never had or heard of (you might want to bring a dictionary or be ready to ask a lof of questions). For instance the FluggaenkoCcoehioebolsen ($14) contains Boomsma Genever, Wray & Nephew Overproof-Rum, Luxardo Apricot Liqueur, Lemon and Sage.

Johnny Jackson

4
587 College St, Toronto, ON M6G 1B2

Johnny Jackson is not only open late (til 4am on Fridays and Saturdays), the menu is such fun, you’ll want to stay up just to try it. All dishes are $10, including tax, and served in a cardboard take out box with plastic fork. Perfect for eating while out on the town enjoying modern art!

Sitting on the dock of the bay, or a patio downtown, or in the cool comfort of an air conditioned restaurant, nothing says summertime like fish and chips. Here are the city’s top 5 spots:

One of the best ways to spend a summer evening is to catch a show. Whether you’re going out to a big theatre production such as Newsies or Kinky Boots, or you’re heading off to hear a performance by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company or Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra & Chamber Choir, you’re going to want to eat beforehand.
