Tapeo is more than a tapas bar; it's a project of two childhood friends — Sébastien Muniz and Victor Afonso — who since the age of 14 have dreamed of working together on a culinary adventure. "As teens, we even opened a joint account to fund our project!" says Victor.
When they got wind in 2004 that a space was freeing up in the Villeray area, they didn't hesitate for a second. "Except Villeray was not a neighbourhood where people went out; we had to find a good concept," says Victor.
Largely influenced by their Iberian origins — Spanish for Sebastian, Portuguese for Victor — it seemed obvious to open a tapas bar. "It's convivial, easy to share and still not over played," says Victor.

Excellent food, very fresh... the atmosphere and service was very friendly. A busy place, yet they take good care of you.
Awesome place, a bit small (the mens bathroom is the smallest i have seen in my life) but everything else was perfect. Try the salmon tartar or the scampies... Ouch Nice wines. The staff knew every details of the menu with perfection and made honest suggestions. They have 42 places for now but at the end of january the new building will hold 80. For desert, try the Churo... Ouch
Everything in this restaurant make you feel good.. the impeccable service of the staff (they know everything in the menu and they explain with love and attention)... Once you try it you'll wanna try everything and come back more and more... Wine list perfect... The prices are cheap for the quality of this place...
The slight details were though of so we could enjoy an amazing tasting experience. The talented chef's (Marie-Fleur) imagination and innovation are geniously charming. The wine selection is intelligent and combines well with the different dish. A must try stop !
Perfect food, service, lighting, music, ambiance, very hip and trendy, super clean, beautiful warn place with great wine selection for every budget ... Perfect staff ... Try it ... You'll love it... For the same quality of meal i paid 1/3 of the prices that the other restaurants would charge... Great coffee too

Tapeo is a classic that we simply cannot get enough of. This Spanish tapas restaurant ensures that Mom gets to try a little bit of everything. Their scallops wrapped in lardon are a must, as is their pan-fried mushrooms in a rich sauce with a poached egg. Marie Fleur St Pierre, the head chef, even has a cookbook of all her classic dishes, named after her restaurant. What a perfect little gift for mom, after taking her to Tapeo for dinner!
View this Smart ListThis is one of the most famous tapas bars in Montreal... and rightly so. I have to admit that with Marie-Fleur in the kitchen, they already have a head start. Squid, cod, sardines, sausage: all used to create proper Spanish dishes you won’t soon forget. Pro tip: you can now bring Marie-Fleur’s cuisine home, thanks to her ready-to-eat take-away dishes.
