This is no longer a restaurant. It is now a gift shop, full, no doubt, of ugly, over-priced touristy rubbish. I have been looking for places to eat during my upcoming trip. This won't be one of them!
I looked up this restaurant before I went on vacation to Tobermory, Bruce Peninsula. It rained the whole weekend, so we ended up going (we were camping). This place had great food! It was a little pricey, but that's to be expected as it is a remote location and I can't even imagine the increased operating costs in that location.
I was glad we got there early, as soon as we were seated the place started to fill up. While the outside wasn't much to talk about, the inside was clean and cute. Each table had magic eyes or puzzles to keep you entertained.
The wait staff was a bit slow, but they were very nice. It's a pretty relaxed atmosphere.
There was also live music, so it must have been Saturday that we went (according to their website).
I can only comment on what I had, but I know the other three found their meals absolutely great also.
I ordered the Gado Gado and the Pisang Goreng (there's a menu on their website). Both of these were so tasty and I wish I knew the Gado Gado recipe. The ingredients were fresh and the serving size was great. I was just a bit too full when I finished everything on my plate. I definitely didn't want to share with anyone.
I also tried the Sambal Goreng Tempeh from someone else's plate and that was great too.
Overall, great place. If I were living in Bruce Peninsula, I would likely go there often. I wish there was a place like it around London.
Also, I am glad I didn't have to pay :P.

I was craving Indonesian food since my last trip...
I was craving Indonesian food since my last trip to Holland, but I could not find an Indonesian restaurant anywhere in the greater Toronto area. After coming across this restaurant online I decided to drive from Kitchener all the way up to Tobermory to try it out.
I was not disappointed. I ordered the chicken satay served on a bed of basmati rice, with extra peanut sauce to drizzle over the stir fried vegetables. My friend ordered the spicy beef with rice. We shared 500 ml of white wine. We also shared a large piece of chocolate cake with orange flavored icing, and a side dish of ice cream, as well as ordering coffee with dessert. The total bill was $89 plus a tip but it was well worth the price.
I'm glad that I planned my vacation in Tobermory around this restaurant. It was worth the 4 hour drive up to eat there.
We had an excellent dining experience at the Stone Orchid with attentive and caring service and fantastic food. We would recommend this restaurant as a terrific night out with friends or family.
