Family run business since Oct 1984 in Stratford area. Specialize in home cooked food. Speciality items include fish and chips, butter tarts, pies, soup and salads club sandwiches. Close knit disfunctional family business.
We came here with a friend who lives in town and comes often. Don't let the appearance fool you. It was a very good breakfast. Eggs cooked perfectly, 4 pieces of pemeal bacon. French toast came with 4 pieces. Kept coffee cups filled. Rye toast on option. The hash browns, in my opinion were okay, and maybe could have been a little more plentiful. But the others liked them. I would've rated the service higher except that a couple orders of a toast came quite late in the meal. In fact, my wife was almost done. The waitress said they coming a couple of times, but still, they should have been right there when your meal arrived. My wife said she didn't the waitress was that friendly, but I didn't notice.
We've been coming to Stratford each summer for about 15 years, and we always eat here at least twice during our stay...last week we ate there 3 days in a row.
The servers are friendly and helpful, the food is delicious and plentiful...I especially love whatever soup is on for the day because you can tell it was made from scratch.
The "special" each day seems to be a regular menu item which is about $1 off. Yesterday I got the fish on a bun which included a big hunk of hand-battered cod, slaw, choice of potatoes and soup for $8.95. I was too full for dessert so I took a butter tart home for later.
My other favorite is the sausage w/ kraut.
Love love love Madelyn's Diner!
My wife and I have had lunch here, and it's fine (though the sandwiches are a bit big for me), but this is the place to be for breakfast. Good, home-made comfort food. Come here for the breakfast, and check out one of Stratford's finer restaurants for lunch or dinner.
First off all, this is like a retro-diner/slightly shabby. So don't expect pretty.
Grilled cheese very tasty, burger excellent. Food greasy like it should be from a diner.
