A great diner experience. The milkshakes are The Very Best. The staff is friendly even if it is very busy. We try to o go every time we are in Ottawa.
We came here for breakfast as we heard their breakfast was good. We were definitely fooled! We walked in and the place was packed, we weren't able to get a table for 15 minutes, so we opted for the bar. The bar was actually comfortable, but it was so busy! We were given menus and chose our items. We waited, maybe about 7 minutes for our food. I ordered 'Zak's Big Breakfast', it wasn't that good at all, the eggs were cold, there was no ketchup for the homefries (I had to hunt down a bottle) and there was no butter/jam/peanut butter for the toast, once again, I had to hunt those items down. On the menu it says 'fresh fruit' however, the lady behind the bar told us that it isn't fresh, it is processed, yuck! Also, I was supposed to get fried beans with my meal but, they never came. The atmosphere is definitely diner-like, I have to give that to them. But the service and food is not worth your money. Needless to say, I would never come back here again.
Visited on a family trip to Ottawa. Like many theme restaurants, Zak's Diner is pricey, and offers just basic quality food. Service was good - friendly and quick. Food was basic diner fare - not good but not bad and certainly not outstanding. But, be warned, you are paying for the atmosphere and the location near the Byward Market. The prices were a good 40% higher then what you would find for similar food at a regular diner. I would give it a pass, walk 3 blocks in either direction and you will find the same food, for a lot less.
Its a diner, but with higher than average prices. Its a regular, run of the mill restaurant. There are much better places, but if you are drunk and starving after the bar then I guess it may be worthwhile
This dinner was very flashy on the inside and had a friendly atmosphere. The staff served us well and the food was fantastic.
Zaks is the best diner in the world. I love the food, love the service, love the atmosphere. The onion rings are the best I've ever had.
excellent place for a reasonably priced meal. A popular resterant so you may have to wait a short time to be seated but the food and service are worth the time.
Really fun family restaurant. Fabulous shakes and curly fries. great atmosphere but portions way too large- have to split all menu items between 2 people!

A popular 24-hour diner in the ByWard Market, Zak’s boasts a classic diner atmosphere with jukeboxes and deep booth seating. The friendly service and reasonable pricing makes this location an excellent place to stop for a late-night milkshake or pancake platter. As expected with this type of restaurant, portions are huge; don't expect to be hungry for a while afterwards.

Try The Great Canadian, Zak’s Big Breakfast, or their Lumberjack’s Breakfast, a skillet-style breakfast with your choice of bacon, ham or sausage with three scrambled eggs, topped with a melted three-cheese blend and served on home fries with toast.
