I have been going to Yangtze since I was a kid and I still go there at least twice a week. The food has always been excellent! The waiters are friendly and have a great sense of humour. They update their specials frequently but I always order the same thing and I always get the same friendly service.
This restaurant has seen better days, as evident from reviews below. Best time is mid-afternoon, before the dinner rush. If it's packed, don't go. Service is always uneven; they treat regulars a lot better than unknowns. Food is in the better tier, though; almost worth the price. They have their specialties, but some common items are found better nearby. Sad that at their projected quality level, they still charge for tea (a relic procedure from the 80s). I will say that their eggplant is probably the best in town...
Excellent value for the money. It is by far the best chinese restaurant in Ottawa.
The restaurant was good, but the service needs improving. We reserved a spot but they bumped us because the people that bumped us bribed the maitre d' (and they actually told us that!) After about 20 minutes, we finally got seated. The food was okay, except that the beef was a little overcooked. We were eating when a waiter came along and just gave us the bill without us telling her to. So we kept on eating and ignored the bill, and after a while, the waiter came again and asked us if the bill is ready. We were almost finished eating, so I paid the bill. They didn't even give us desserts or fortune cookies like they gave to other guests. I gave them the exact amout with NO TIP because they didn't deserve it.
Luckily I made a reservation for me and 3 friends on new years eve as it was packed! We were ushered to our table immediately. Service was quick yet brisk, not the friendliest wait staff. However, the food was absolutely delicious, as it always it. Veggies are always fresh and the sauces are fresh and light. Nothing is over-done or tastes like it came from a can, box or bag. Prices can be expensive, but I say the food is worth it!

A Chinatown institution, the sprawling, bustling Yangtze has been in business more than 30 years. It must be doing something right. When it’s busy, which is much of the time, it buzzes with a mixed clientele of Asian and non-Asian diners. With both Cantonese and spicier cuisine, there’s something for every taste. Gluten-free diets are accommodated and the place offers seasonal specials. Try the Hunan beef or, for something a tad different, fried lobster with ginger and onions. Delivery is available until 11 p.m.

In fact, loyal regulars come in with their children and then grandchildren for the popular cart-based dim sum lunch and Cantonese dinner dishes. Yangtze serves one of the flakier egg tarts in town and there are cooks dedicated to preparing the fresh shrimp dumpling har gow every day. For many in Ottawa, Yangtze served us our first taste of yang chow fried rice and beef with rice noodles. Tuck into a table with a lazy–Susan and practise those chopstick skills.
