As the founder of Neil Brown Well Drilling, Neil started a career in water well drilling in 1972 working for a company in the Barrie area. Later he moved to a company that traveled across Canada doing larger municipal, industrial and mining water wells, dewatering wells, and exploration drilling.

Getting tired of traveling Neil settled in Emsdale in 1986 working for a company that drilled mostly domestic wells. In 1998 Neil struck out on his own doing pump service work, well repairs and decommissioning work. Neil's son Brian joined him in 2000 and thought well drilling should be resumed.
