From start to finish this meal was excellent. The restaurant looks like nothing from the outside but simple yet impressive on the inside. Tastefully decorated and greeted by smiling staff.
This is the first indian restaurant I have tried since moving to Canada from England and from what I hard heard it is difficult to find a good indian in Calgary. Well this was incredible.
The waitress was excellent and answered all of our questions and made excellent recommendations. We started with poppadums and mango cutney and they were probably the best I have ever had, freshly made and just excellent. We then shared the Vegetarian Platter for 2, the somosas were different from what I was use to and they weren't the best but the rest of spicey and delicious.
My main, the Chicken Goa Curry (only lamb is mentioned on the menu but she informed me they could do chicken as well) was just perfect, I was concerned when I ordered it that it would be too much like a Thai curry and not the indian I was craving as it is made with coconut milk but it was perfectly spiced and one of the best curries I have ever had.
All in all this was an excellent meal and we will definately be going back.
Serving a selection of regional Indian dishes, the Moti Mahal menu includes more than a dozen vegetarian main plates. These include palak, a spinach puree simmered with tomatoes, onions, ginger and garlic, Mumbai alu, a tomato and tamarind curry with a warm hit of spice as well as vegetable poriyal, which features a coconut-curried potatoes, cauliflower, carrots and peas. Its two locations can be found in Midnapore Mall and in Bankview.
Owned and operated by the Mann family, Moti Mahal serves a sumptuous spread of Kashmiri and Mughlai food, both cuisine styles of northern India. Dishes vary in flavour and heat level from screamin’ hot vindaloo and tandoori beef kabobs to fragrant lamb masala and creamy vegetable korma. The restaurant has two sister locations, one at 14th Street and 17th Avenue Southwest and the other in Midnapore Mall.
