HUGE disappointment!!!!!

It was my husband and my anniversary, along with our long time friends who were also celebrating a birthday the night we decided to dine at this god awful restaurant. From the time we were barely greeted at the door we were asked to sit at the bar and wait for our table which we had reserved 2 weeks prior. The young lady behind the bar who obviously had no experience never once asked us if we wanted a drink or did she offer us any menus. The whole time she chatted with other staff and loudly complained about other customers. We couldn't believe what we were hearing! Finally we were brought to our table by the lady who was falling asleep at the other end of the bar who we were led to believe was the owner of this zoo. The menu was typical boring Canadian/Italian and far from authentic. Everyone's meal was a complete disappointment, we even declined the complimentary desserts. This was the worst dinning experience we've all ever had. We definitely won't be returning to La Roma ever again!

Too much salt!!

My goodness. How much salt can you add to a dish?. Way too much at La Roma. Almosat unedible main dishes.... in fact my wife could not swallow 90% of her veal dish because of the salt dosage. Veal soaked in salt. Everything on the Italian Combination Plate soaked in salt. The tomatoe and buffalo mozzarella salad was good and nothing else. We could hardly wait to leave and rinse our mouths out!

Had been there years ago (because we live out of town) and loved it, so we went back on Feb. 26 but...what a difference! The person at the front entrance was on the phone when we came in and we had to wait until she finished her phone call (3-4 min.) before she greeted us. Our waitress' attitude was that she was doing us a favour by serving us. The special was Stuffed squash and it was very bland. The chicken marsala was tasteless. The view we had from our table was a great big Scotiabank sign which could have been hidden by curtains to make the place more italian and less commercial. All in all, a bad experience and would not recommend this restaurant.

We regularly visit La Roma because the food is excellent, the service is great and the Atmosphere is terrific. They have the best Fettucini Alfredo I have ever had, mix it with any main course on the menu.

Very disappointed

For a restaurant who is supposed to be among the best in Ottawa, it definitely needs improvement. The decor, cleanliness and service are very good. However, the food leaves a lot to be desired. There were eight of us and no one was pleased with our dish. One had ravioli that was absolutely disgusting (looked like Chef Boyardee); another had Fettucini Alfredo; another lemon chicken and I had that chicken/ham dish. All these dishes were lukewarm and completely tasteless. I ordered Bruschetta and for $6.00 i got 2 pieces of thick bread with tomatoes and basil and the other two pieces were covered with mushrooms and onions (not a very attractive dish). That is twice in 10 days I was served food I would rather give to someone I don't like. I don't know what happened because I used to go to La Roma quite often and everything was always perfect.

I have to say that this is the best lasagna that I have eaten so far (except for my boyfriend's lasagna of course!). I always take the lasagna and it never dissapoints. The sauce is unbelivable! Almost every time I went there, me and my mom had Ria as a waitress. She is the best waitress!! And she recognizes us every time :)

My girlfriend and I came here one night for a casual dinner after work. It was recommended to us by several people, so we finally decided to give it a shot. I have to say it was just amazing. The zucchini were crisp and delicious and the homemade sauce that came with it was really really good. They gave us complimentary seasoned olives and bruschetta which were both pretty adictive. My girlfriends salad had fried scallops on them and they were amazing, the dressing was light and refreshing. But I have to say the veal was out of this world, super tender and oozing with flavour. My girlfriends chicken was spicy but so good she could have had seconds. I will definitely be back, our server was super friendly and recommended a really nice bottle of wine that you can't find at the LCBO which was a nice change. Perfect 10 for La Roma!

Even though this is a locally "highly rated" italian restaurant, I gotta say it's on my black list after the first time dining in there. The food is very very slow and expensive and the seafood on top of the linguini was like the size of green peas (it says prawn on the menu). BTW the service was horrible, I am not sure if it was due to the party that was attending in the upper level or just normal cause. We waited 20 minutes to be seated when the table was right beside the doorway and nobody touched it for the whole waiting time, around another 20 minutes til the server actually comes around to order for us when both of them were chatting at the bar. I would say it's definately not worth the price to go there and have a formal dinner unless you have extremely good temper or you would go home smashing chinas.

The menu at La Roma changes based on what is available from local farmers, making it seasonal – of course – but also fresh and inventive. Come and start with shrimp or deep-fried lake smelts with oregano. They've got a dozen different pastas as well as six delicious variations on veal, including the standout veal scaloppine with cremini mushrooms. The corkage fee here is $20, but is waived on Thursdays.
