Best Thai food in town. I go in all the time with my family both to sit in and eat and order out. Food is relatively and the flavors are incredible. Unfortunately, it has been a long wait every single time I go. The restaurant has grown in popularity over the past few years, but their services have not yet been able to catch up to this growth. They always say it will be 45 minutes for pick up but it always is closer to an hour and a half. If they know what is good for their business, they would hire another chef. Other than the service, the food is incredible and I will still return (unless I am in a rush...)
Based on the recommendation of our son, we decide to try Baan Thai with a couple of take outs. This Monday, I dropped by this place at 5:00 and ordered #20 and #32 with beef. Since I was the only one there, my order came out very quickly in less then 20 minute. The smell made me feel even hungrier, so I couldn't wait to get home and enjoy the food. but what a disappointment: #20 Gaeng Garee Gai was OK, but it was clear the chicken was cooked separately ahead of time, and a little bit dry. #32 Pad Ga Prow has no taste at all beside the basil smell. The meat came off $2/lb kind of beef, it was hard and dry. My wife (who doesn't cook) said it the best: "Even I know this kind of beef can't be stir fried". My wife said she won't be going there again, but I might since this is in Ottawa.
Best Thai cuisine in the city, hands down. After eating here nothing else measures up! The service could be faster and more attentive but no complaints for the chef.
Baan Thai is dependable. That may seem a little like a condemnation, but it's not really. The food is always very good. The service is always somewhat impersonal. The restaurant is always packed, which given its small size is not all that surprising. We have both eaten in and ordered take-out. As some other reviewers have noted, take-out service is sometimes slow, but given the popularity of this restaurant among the local community, that is not suprising either. Given the reliance on fresh foods in thai cuisine (vegetables and herbs especially), it is hard to hide bad cooking. The curries, soups and salads at Baan Thai are very well executed. The Pad Thai is a little on the sweet side, but some prefer it that way. Servers are quick to provide lime wedges if you like it a little on the sour side.
I have tried many of Ottawa's Thai restaurants and Baan Thai has got to be the best. The food is authentic and tasty, well presented and fresh. The service was excellent, one dish would be finished only to be replaced quickly by others. Everyone at the table was impressed.
Best Thai food I have ever had. Have been going to this restaurant since 2005 and the food is still amazing! Service is fine, food is quick and servers don't bug you too much..leaves you to a nice quiet dinner. Inside its very nice and relaxing. After 3 years, still my favorite restaurant by far.
Best Thai Food I have found anywhere. Do not believe the other reviews the service is perfectly acceptable. Best Thai in the oddest location.
Having recently returned from a vacation to Thailand, this is the most authentic Thai food and atmosphere that we can find in Ottawa. Amazing food. True Thai people who obviously care about this restaurant. We have been multiple times now and have not experienced anything like the reviews below. Try the Yellow Curry. UNBELIEVABLE!
Food is delicious every time; however, service is pretty awful regardless of whether we dine in or take out. I will continue to order take out because the food is great, but I will not actually eat in the restaurant again.
Albeit, the food is good. But the services is horrific! They lost our takeout order, and claimed we never called. Then they promised to make our meal in 20 minutes, after an hour we finally got our food. They didn't even offer a discount (and we didn't ask). At their best, the staff is disinterested and unorganized.
Food is very good, however after enjoying a lunch with a friend for about 45 minutes, was brought the bill and stood over until I brought out my credit card, which I found strange. We were then (politely) asked to leave because "they had to clean the tables". There were only about 4 other tables occupied, no line-up, and it was only 1:30. So we suddenly ended our enjoyable meal and were herded out - as though it was a fast food outlet. I will not go back or recommend to anyone because to me service is # 1 and there are many other just as good Thai restaurants to choose from that treat you as a valued client. Too bad, because the food is good.
I have dined at Baan Thai on numerous occasions, for dinner and lunch. The food is consistently delicious. Service is good. Decor is very attractive. Atmosphere is quiet and calm. Wonderful experience. My son and I dined together recently and he remarked that it was the best Thai food he had tasted since Thailand!
Fabulous, This is the place that we go on special occassions. The best Thai ever. I am planning on ordering the pineapple curry the next time that we go, I saw someone else get it the last time we were there and it looked incredible. The cuury is serve on half of a pineapple. Amazing presentation. Staff very efficient and seem to know when you are finishing one course and are bringing out the next. The place is not large but has nice decor. I would recommend rerservations as it is a fair distance in centrepoint.
Amazing dining experience at a very reasonable price. A neigbourhood restaurant that can compete with some of the best high-profile Thai restaurants.
Service is great, food is out of this world and extremely inexpensive, great atmosphere. An instant classic.
The food was excellent. I enjoyed every bite. Very flavorful, with just the right amount of hot peppers for a bit of a kick. The restaurant is small and intimate. The combo plate hit the spot without overfilling. The staff were friendly and courteous. Highly recommended.
I have visited many times and never been dissappointed, the food is excellent, the service great, even the china is authenic and attractive. Their presentation is impeccable with finely cut garnishes on every dish. Must haves: the chicken/shrimp soup #1, can't remember the name, the mango salad -wonderful - my favourite! All the curries are wonderful and the lunch sampler is always a hit!
The service, food and atmosphere were great. The glasses and cutlery were free of spots too, which is a plus for us. I don't like seeing spots on my glasswear or cutlery. The Thai seasonings were just spicy enough if you like some heat to your food. Will put this one on our come back again list!
It's the only place that we will eat Thai. Try it and you'll feel the same way!!! Enjoy!
Best Thai food in the City! Service is compariable to any large expensive place with the warm feeling of a family run operation. Definitely will eat there again and will tell all my friends.
