Whyte Avenue, located in Old Strathcona, is a beloved landmark in Edmonton. It’s full of shopping, nightlife and, most importantly, fabulous restaurants and cafes. With so much to offer, it can be tough to take it all in, so we’ve created shortlist of the places you don’t want to miss.
Accent Lounge
8223 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4E7This cozy European restaurant is so lively and fun. It’s literally just around the corner from Whyte Avenue, and it’s always packed. The menu is exquisite, with lovely choices such as salmon and filet mignon. But things do start to get a bit rowdy later in the evenings on weekends, as the pre-bar crowd enjoys some cocktails and locally brewed beers at the high tables and booths that fill up every inch of this place. In the summer, there’s even a tiny patio!
Yiannis Taverna
1-10444 82 Ave Nw, Edmonton, AB T6E 2A2This romantic Greek restaurant draws in people from around the city, with its yummy souvlaki and pita bread. They offer a great variety of dips, so many so that you may want to just eat bread and hummus all night, no entrée required (but try to save room for some lamb or chicken, as it is stellar, too).
Chianti Cafe & Restaurant
10501 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2A3This simple café has some of the best pasta in the city. It is inexpensive, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays, when all pasta dishes are half-price. The portions are huge, they offer amazing gluten-free pasta and their sauces are delectable.
Remedy Cafe
10455 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 3R7This may be the smallest of the Remedy locations, but it’s no less amazing than the others, with a plenty of love and energy packed into a very cozy space. There are still a few tables to sit at and enjoy a chai latte and a piece of gluten-free cheesecake. It may be small, but it takes over its corner on Whyte Avenue by sheer force of its personality.
Fuss Cupcakes Ltd
10441 82nd Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2A1This tiny space has what may be the most scrumptious cupcakes in Edmonton. They have a great set of flavours, plus a few seasonal selections. The cupcakes are always moist, the icing is always thick and the sweetness is always just right. There are a few tables where you can sit and have a cup of tea while you devour the cupcakes you meant to save for later.
Under The High Wheel
8135 102 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4A4What a fantastic brunch spot, conveniently located in the Roots on Whyte building, so you can stop by before or after Pilates or grocery shopping. The menu is varied, made from fresh, seasonal ingredients. It features many vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes, making it the spot for brunch and lunch goers who crave options.
Block 1912 Cafe
10361 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 1Z9It is hard to walk down Whyte Avenue without at least peeking into Block 1912. The warm, inviting atmosphere encourages you to step inside and take a load off. Then, you notice the display of delectable desserts and sweet gelato. What’s the harm in just enjoying a little espresso, and maybe some dessert? Absolutely none.
