If you love brunch, there’s now reason to love it even more: Ma Douce Moitié, a restaurant in Verdun, is on a mission to transform breakfast as we know it with a popular dinner concept applied to brunch.
While on staff at an engineering firm, Deborah Blais started a side project: a home bakery out of her kitchen. She built up a solid customer base and was soon spending evenings and weekends filling orders. When the economic downturn hit, her company downsized its local workforce and Deborah lost her job. Instead of jumping into search mode, Deborah had a different plan: she was going to make her side job a full-time gig.
"I thought of opening a bakery, but when looking to set up a full kitchen in a commercial location, I wondered what I'd do with all the extra space," says Deborah. Since she'd always loved to cook, and loved having friends and family over for brunch, an idea began to take shape. With funding for young entrepreneurs from a few local organizations, Deborah and her husband Edgar opened Ma Douce Moitié just 30 days after they married. Ever since, the Verdun resto-café has been redefining the concept of brunch.
