A place where barrel-aged spirits and wood-fired foods come together, Woodwork was opened by owners Mike Scorgie and Andrew Borley in December 2013. Prior to joining together in this venture, Mike owned and operated Nomad Food Truck, while Andrew owned and operated a catering cocktail company, The Volstead Act.
Having worked together on numerous events, Andrew and Mike found that they had a lot in common. Their businesses complemented each other so much, they decided to bring the food and spirits together in one place: Woodwork, which is located in the historic McLeod Building on 100 Street. Andrew, who has a background in architectural technology, designed the restaurant’s unique interior.
The bartenders really look the part here, dressing up in the style of the speakeasy age. They also know they're on display, so the way they shake it and stir it is worth watching. As far as cocktail culture goes, Woodwork was the first in Edmonton to take cocktails very seriously. Before Woodwork came along, we had heard about the $12 and $15 cocktail in other cities but they were the first ones to bring that kind of high-level cocktail to Edmonton, and then prove that such a cocktail could actually be worth it.
The cuisine is southern U.S. barbecue with French influences; the ingredients are as local as possible. That fresh tarragon you’re enjoying in the aioli that comes with hickory frites? Grown in the restaurant’s hydroponic herb garden. That tasty grilled brisket or Cornish hen you’re tearing into with gusto? Perfected on the restaurant’s custom wood grill. And, they butcher and prepare the meat for their charcuterie plates in house, and use some locally-produced cheeses, too.
This trendy restaurant never disappoints when you’re looking for a great spot to have drinks and
share food with friends. Enjoy the bustling atmosphere and sip on an artisanal cocktail while sharing a few delicious bar snacks and share plates. Make sure to save room for dessert, as the sticky toffee pudding is delicious!
