Massawa Café and Bistro is a space of possibilities, inspired by a place of historic beauty. The space is open and relaxed, the walls are bright and green. The ancient port-city of Massawa, almost 12 000 kilometres away from Edmonton, along the coast of Eritrea’s Red Sea, is the inspiration behind the café.
Massawa is a place that carries memories of the freedom of living in the moment – like going out with friends and family and swimming in the Red Sea; and these moments of beauty exist in spite of the political environment within both the city and the country. “I chose the name Massawa because the city is beautiful. In the future, I see Massawa as being a booming city in Eritrea,” says Jimmy Namariam, owner of Massawa Café and Bistro.
Jimmy would like to be a part of Massawa’s burgeoning future, one day. “My plan is, if I go back to Eritrea, I have to do something with Massawa,” he says. “I have the dream, and hopefully it will come true.”
