Nothing says summer like the smell of BBQ in the air, and what better way to spend a hot summer night than by tasting the best of BBQ on The Main? Yes, this year during the MURAL Festival, many restaurants will be dishing out their favourite BBQ meals as part of Grill Saint-Laurent from June 8th to 10th – all for $5 per meal. Here’s what you’ll find chefs dishing out on the street in front their restaurant.
Known for their exquisite Portuguese seafood menu and fine wines, Portus Calle is easily one of The Main’s best-kept secrets, not to mention the perfect spot for a romantic date. Portuguese-inspired mini brochettes will be on the menu – a simple skewer with pineapple, shrimp and chorizo, marinated with garlic, coriander and lemon juice.
Laïka serves a great cup of coffee, excellent small plates to share, and a mean brunch on Sundays. In the evenings, you’ll enjoy the smooth beats of up-and-coming DJs. A BBQ salmon brochette will be featured, and served with fennel sauce and chili.
You’ll find BBQ à la japonaise in front of Sushi Momo. The Momo Sandwich comes with your choice of pork or tofu filling, served with sautéed Asian vegetables and Asian sauce.
Coco Rico serves some of the best Portuguese rotisserie chicken in town. The unassuming eatery will be showing off their BBQ skills with a pork cutlet marinated using a secret family recipe, inspired by their Portuguese roots.
When you’re looking for gourmet products and fine French cheeses, head to La Vieille Europe. The gourmet grocery store will be grilling their Vieille Europe Chicken Slider, a delicious combination of a piri piri chicken leg slider with German sauerkraut and spices.
Known for their smoked-meat sandwiches, Main Deli will be offering something entirely different: South American-inspired garlic, mustard, pepper and oregano marinated chicken served with salad.
If you’re looking for delicious and authentic spicy sausages and other cured meats, look no further than Boucherie Hongroise. They will be offering Chevapi, which consists of ground beef and pork mixed with spices and cured overnight.
Staying true to its Mexican roots, Burrito Shop will be serving roasted pork tacos and tortas, called Puerco Asado, for the event. Be sure to save some room!
Omnivore serves hormone-free, Mediterranean fare on the daily – kebabs, mezes, and fresh juices make this a great spot to grab lunch. They will be sticking to their specialty for Grill Saint-Laurent: a Lebanese marinated filet mignon served on a bed of couscous.
Known for their delicious hot dogs and Belgian fries, Frite Alors will be offering a marinated grilled chicken drumstick they’ve dubbed the Louis-Cyr, after the famous French Canadian strongman.
Suwu, known for its urban chic décor and smooth vibes, will be serving Chicken à la Mars (the planet) – a chicken brochette served on pita bread with secret ingredients (probably from planet earth, but we can’t say for sure).
When one thinks BBQ on The Main, Diablos is the place that usually comes to mind. Hickory smoked baby back ribs will be on the grill, slathered with a homemade BBQ sauce and a blend of spices.
Med Express Pizza is well known for serving a mean slice of pizza, but they’ve also made a name for themselves with their submarine sandwiches, roast chicken and souvlakis. If you haven’t tasted their brochettes, make sure you stop by for some Turkish Kofta.
