This is the best Fish and Chips I have ever had in Toronto. I wish there were more locations.
This is a neighbourhood gem and for anyone who loves fish and chips , its time to take a drive over to Mt Pleasant and Davisville. Best fish n chips in town! If you closed your eyes and did a blind taste test you were think you were in jolly old Britain , having your sunday fish and chips wrapped in newspaper. Perfectly deep fried and really really yummy!
great fish, great chips, can't ask more
Very nice people and prompt service I ordered and received my order with 5 mins. The chips were good maybe a bit dry but are chips in the traditional sense of the word. The fish was superb... flaky and tasty and the only disappointment is there was not more of it. Nice people and down to earth will be on my lunch list as I work in the area.
Food was awesome, the fries were just right - hot and cirspy!
Penrose is a true fish n' chips restaurant. While I've been going there for years, I've only had the take out. I only complaint is that they're not open long enough. It's worth the drive to Mount Pleasent.
heard about this place having the best fish and chips in toronto. What a rip- off. ordered 3 fish and chips.Got 3 of the smallest pieces of fish i've ever seen and only enough chips for 2 people.Spent $40 and got 1/2 of what other fish and chips give.Stay away not worth the money.
Everything was right on. The batter on the fish was the best I ever had.
We had heard lots of good things about Penrose so gave it a try. It was better than we had expected. Crispy delicious fish and fresh chips. The restaurant is small but the food is worth the wait. There were lots of take outs while we were there. Best fish I have ever had.
We raced there on Saturday after golf so we could get our meal ordered prior to them closing. I get so happy when I enter Penrose because of the smell. I can smell the British in the Fish & Chips and it takes me back to my english childhood. Excellent job from everyone! Delicious fish with just enough batter, fresh chips and love the creme soda drink. Will be back again and again
The slaw was average, but the fish was excellent. Right amount of batter and the fish was moist and good.
One of the best places in Toronto if you enjoy fish and chips that are done to perfection. The halibut is moist and the coating is very crisp. The fries are freshly cut and delicious and can be eaten without anything on them, although I like to slather them with lots of ketchup. Most important, the staff are very friendly.

My first trip was when my parents took me - I was five and in kindergarten. We took the newspaper-wrapped fish and chips to Davisville Park, just a few blocks away. Crisp golden batter gave way to moist cod, and fresh-cut fries (with skin on), heavily salted with a good dose of malt vinegar, is what I've held all fish and chips up to as a standard all these years.
