One of Pickering’s most historic restaurants, Massey’s, has been open since 1965. A family business since it opened, Massey’s has grown from a small take-out burger joint to a full restaurant.
“My father started the restaurant,” says current owner Don Argiro. “I’ve worked here on-and-off since I was a kid, and now my kids work here too. It’s a true family business.”
Offering traditional Canadian food, Massey’s is famous for its burgers and sandwiches. “From steaks and sandwiches to the perfect burger, we have something hearty and delicious for whatever you’re craving.”

I've been coming to Massey's for a long time. Lunches, dinners. The food has always been fresh, and tasty. The servers have always been nice and courteous. The portions are ridiculously large. Pastas, it's two meals. Steak on a kaiser, top with some A1 steak sauce, you're biting into some deliciousness. Their menu specials are usually really good. Just really a nice place to go eat at, at a price range that won't break the bank. Others have complained that they are busy. There's a reason for that. Cause the food is good!
I've been coming to Massey's since 2000 on and off and lately the menu has changed slightly, so I decided to give the Mac and Cheese a try. I ordered it with bacon. The pasta is cooked perfectly, the sauce is rich and creamy and there is loads of a mix of cheeses which string off your fork like you were eating a pizza. Comes with a side salad or soup. I usually get the ceasar salad since they make the best one around town. This dish would be perfect if the price was lower by around $3.
I have been going to masseys about once a month with the family for a few years but last saturday we went for dinner i ask for a table for five adults and three kids they said ok after about ten minutes they said it would be a two hour wait i ask why did you not tell me as soon we got there they did not say anything so we walk out its your loss we will not be back
Have gone to Massey's for 25-30 years when Dad operated it and now the son. Can't say I've ever had a bad meal. I LOVE their burgers/fries/Greek salad. Portions are humongous. I always have leftovers for another day. Staff is very friendly, Relaxed atmosphere. What's not to like?!?! Anyone I have ever brought has also enjoyed it and wanted to go back again and again. My personal favorite!
The place was busy when we arrived. We had a reservation for a large group that was not honoured until half an hour later. I ordered the Danforth Burger. It had tsasiki sauce, feta, olives and cucumbers, but this could not compensate for how tasteless this burger was. I'd honestly rather have a burger from the grocery store. I was very disappointed.
Masseys is a great place to go for a casual dinner out. Always a good meal with big portions and very reasonable prices. So many options on the menu! Great service and friendly staff!
Heard a lot about this place and even saw them on tv on durham dining but all three of us, 2 women and one man, were very disappointed in our meals. Fries were reheated, salad was very very bland and all of us had upset stomachs afterwards....
Massey's is a landmark in Pickering. Always there, never too long a wait, if any. We usually have great meals but lately not so good...perhaps new staff in the kitchen? Souvalaki on a wrap shouldn't have chunks of beef that big...honestly it's a health hazard! The nachos appetizer had a minimum one pound BLOB of melted mozzarella cheese on top of spaghetti sauce (incidentally spaghetti was the special that night!) The staff are always friendly. Have had some lapses as of late...waiting for milk for the tea until the hot water had gone cold ...couldn't seem to get any ones attention even though the place was only 3/4 full. But we have never been disappointed by the chocolate cake...the slice is big enough for 3-4 to share!
My friends and I have been to Massey's on three different occassions and each time the food has been acceptable. Nothing fancy, exceptional or anything that has a homemade feel to it. The portion sizes are decent, but nobody was really impressed with anything in particular. The first time we went, the nachos were quite good (and the reason we went back the 2nd time) , but the next 2 times, they were sub par. Not sure what happened, but they were soggy and bland tasting. The patio is the better choice because it provides some atmosphere during the warmer months.
I have been dining at Massey's for as long as I can remember. The food is AMAZING! I've ordered, or at least sampled, probably everything on the menu at least once and have never been disappointed. YES, they love their garlic and the staff will be the first to tell you so. If you don't like the meal, they'll usually take it off the bill, UNLESS YOU EAT THE WHOLE PLATE AND THEN TELL THEM IT WAS BAD (DUH!!!) The staff is so friendly and full of knowledge, always ready to make a suggestion or offer you their favourite dish(es). Someone mentioned previously that they have a high staff turnover, which appears to be true but it's only because of their high standards! Other loyal customers will know that many of the servers have been there for over 5 years (Randy, Erin, Holly... yes, I know their names! and they know mine, always greeting me by name and with a smile!) The managers do a great job, too! Although, the we miss the blonde manager, the place runs great and is ALWAYS packed. Usually a wait at the door during lunch hour and on weekends but it's totally worth the wait, trust me. to whomever said the food is over priced... are you nuts? Have you seen the HUGE portions they give you? Always includes a starter salad or soup, too. And also, to the "greasy fish person"... don't order DEEP FRIED food if you don't like grease. Common sense, no?! ANYWAY, thanks Massey's!!!! See you soon.
I have been coming to Massey's since I was a 6 year old kid playing hockey in Pickering. I am now 47 years old, and it's still a great as it always was. You'll be shocked, but in all these years I have only tried the three above menu items - Why? Because they are perfect! I travel from Yonge & Sheppard to massey's in Pickering at least once a month for my "Steak-on-a-Bun" fix, which is almost always accompanied by Fries with Gravy, or occasionally by a big, crunchy-fresh house salad when guilt gets the better of me. The steak is perfection - big hunks of completely fat-and-gristle-free, melt-in-your-mouth marinated steak ~ tender, moist and not overcooked, yet deliciously charred on the outside for that yummy grilled flavour. Gotta have mine with just HP sauce, onions and sliced pickles, but traditionally comes with lettuce & tomato. Throw in a large order of fresh-cut fries with dark, beefy gravy on the side, and I'm in heaven! Trust me, there's none better, anywhere in the city (or probably on the planet). Go there, ignore the whiners... you'll thank me :-)
We ordered burgers but came home with very greasy Fish and Chips. Everything was dranched in grease and We ordered hamburger, fries and onion rings but came home with Fish and Chips. We called the restaurant and they offered to redo the order if we come back However, we don’t leave that close so we decided to keep the order. Big mistake Everything was drenched with grease and not really edible. Both my husband and I tried had a bit of a fish and some fires but we had to throw most of it out Absolutely will not go back or recommend this food to anyone.
Our waitress Tonya was fabulous! Food was very good and portions were large for the price paid. The restaurant was very busy but we still got our food quickly and the service was phenomenal - even when Tonya was busy another waitress would see how we were doing. 2 large meals with alcoholic beverages including tax and tip for $40? Who could ask for anything more? We will definitely be going back again and again.
The alfredo sauce was gray and overbearingly tasted of roasted garlic, not much parmesan cheese in it, was grey. The shnitzel tasted like it had been cooked and then frozen and reheated. The shanghai noodles were okay, but not much flavour. The waitress and manager did not charge us for the alfredo after we complained. We'll never go back there again. And by the way, we are not past employees!
They served me, my wife and her father the absolute worst burgers we have ever had - no exaggeration! We initially asked if we could get them at least medium rare but the server said it was their policy to cook the burgers until there was no pink showing. Well, not only was there no pink showing, there was mostly black showing. We joked to ourselves (but seriously) that they tasted like hockey pucks....which they did. We should have immediately sent them back but, instead, complained to the server who,we thought, might reduce the bill or something to rectify the situation. No such luck. All we got was a sorry and full Bill. Too bad. We have had burgers here before, a few years ago, and I'm sure other items on the menu are fine.....but we will probably NEVER go back there again.
I cannot understand for the life of me why ex-employees keep coming on this site and complaining. I think it shows to their lack of character and why they aren't employed any longer. This restaurant is by far the best "bang for your buck" in town. It has the best, homemade, fresh dishes for a rediculously low prices. As someone stated above, this establishment has been open since 1965, and it has been because of the great food and service and owners who don't put up with silly employees like the ones who comment on this site. I think in todays overpriced and overvaulued restaurants that spend more time on image then the food/service, we should be applauding establishments such as Masseys.
3rd time was definitely not a charm. While there was nothing specifically wrong with the food, there was nothing right with it either. *Very* mediocre and way, WAY overpriced. Service was good, she was new, nice and very attentive, but it didn't make up for the wasted money. This was our third and last time.
It is a gret place to eat with a staff who are nice and informative. I will definitaly be going to this resaurant again with my family.
Food and service were excellent. My wife mentioned the occasion of my birthday to Justin, our friendly waiter. I was humbly and most pleasantly surprised with a lovely cake and candle as weel as a verse of Happy Birthday. Fine dining combined with friendly atmosphere. A sure winner.
I Love Massey's!! Been going there to eat since I was 10. Great atmosphere, and friendly service and great pricing.
