The Black Tomato has their patio in a private courtyard shared with a couple of other restaurants which provides an atmosphere hard to find in Canada - exhaust-free! We met another couple for lunch on our last visit and had a great time. The wine selection is decent and service was great. The menu hasn't changed in years - which is great for consistency, but some new dishes would be welcome. Food is consistently tasty and fresh.
Went here with a girlfriend for a nice night out. The atmosphere is pretty nice, the food was good, nothing extraordinary, but nicely done and decently presented. They do have a great beer list that we enjoyed. Nice desserts. I'd go back.
Outstanding service. Great food: very fresh, tasty and original. Classy menu presentation. A most pleasant experience. Only downside: the bathroom was out of paper towels and needs sprucing up. Dark and dingy.
We got in right away, and loved the quaint, trendy atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service was great as well. We enjoyed our stay there tremendously and the c.d selection was amazing. I do not have one bad thing to say about this place.
Funkey relaxed restaurant with an ever changing list of specials. Excellent music selection, and import CDs for sale as well. Owner used to own Record Runner CD shop...

A locavore’s delight: not only does The Black Tomato offer locally procured meats, vegetables, artisanal cheeses and more, but they go so far as to list their producers on their website. If you’re going to a business lunch, you can do your due diligence and impress your colleague with knowledge of local growers. Take the Nobel Bean, located in Perth, a company that provides the restaurant with fresh tempeh. Go here for creative burgers such as the cumin-infused catfish burger or O’Brien Farms beef tenderloin. Ambiance, you ask? Cozy, trendy, and in my experience, perfect for a good conversation.
