I have to prempt everything that I am going to say with I did enjoy the food so much that I may go there again for dinner (am on contract in the area). The hot and sour sea-food soup appeared to be small, but when the flavours filled my mouth, and I discovered 3 large cleaned shrimp (only tail bit remaining) I'm happy to say I'm quite pleased with this selection. The mango salad was not available as a 'plain' mango salad, but also came with shrimp, making it $5-$7 more than I usually pay for mango salad. Again the shrimp were large, clean and fresh (good 'bite', not soggy at all), but the dressing seemed made at the last minute and didn't contain the rich complexity that the soup did. I don't know if I would order this again.
I remember when this restaurant had fairly good service (even at lunchtime). At least a 20 minute wait for orders to be taken and 40 minutes when the food arrived. Food quality has gone downhill, and it's not even authentically made. I am terribly disappointed that the restaurant quality was that bad.
Pros: Food was amazing! I am not sure how authentic it was but there is no question it was great. Spice! (I love it) thank you for allowing me the option and not making me ask for chili sauce! Atmosphere is personal and very comfortable Cons: Service was a little slow but acceptable
Impossible to find fault with anything here today at lunch. Took a friend here for her birthday-It quickly filled up after noon. Water was brought without asking. We shared an app of two large whole shrimp spring rolls and each had a lunch special which included a small bowl of a clear veg soup. She had the pad thai with chicken and I had a wonderful bowl of coconut chicken curry with potato served with rice on the side. It had a hot pepper logo on the side indicating spicy but it just left a nice warm feeling in you mouth. Lovely presentation with shredded veggies on the side. Lunch specials ranged from $8-12 and you could also order off of the large, well organized reg menu. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient. Will be back soon.
I wasn't a big fan of the texture of calamari in the seafood dishes, but no matter because there is plenty to try from their huge menu. I love their signature dish, the pad thai. Mmmm, delicious! The food, good value and the fast, friendly service keep us going back even though we live out of town. If you have a sweet tooth, their 'Thai dessert' is delicious!
Our first experience a few months ago brings us to Sukhothai this evening for a dinner again. Surprised to see that the same person who greeted us last time with a big smile did not show any courtesy this time. Rather, we felt unwelcoming there. What could have possibly happened? No idea really. Never going back there again.
I've been to this restaurant several times at different times of the day and I've always left feeling great about the experience of dining there. Service is quick when needed to be (lunch) and yet when meeting up with friends at dinner, we didn't feel rushed at all! My latest dinner here was shared with a family of 4, the youngest was about 5. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their meal... both at their table and at ours. Maybe the problem isn't with the restaurant but with the child.
We arrived shortly after 7PM when most people were just getting served their food so I'm not sure why the service was very slow. It took at least 20 minutes before we had our orders taken, then another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The waitress was friendly enough, just slow getting to our table. I ordered one very stale Canadian beer and was given a quite a hard time when I sent it back for a Thai beer (I guess its my fault for ordering a Canadian beer in this type of restaurant?)
Awesome place. The flavours in the food are unbelievable. If you love Thai food or want to try it, then this place is a must!
We go here often, It is our favourite restaurant. Food is always prepared just perfect and taste is amazing. Service is wonderful and friendly.
This is not a family friendly place! If you usually bring snacks, juice, or any outside food for your children when you go out for dinner, then this place is not for you. They have a very strict "no outside food" policy. I had first hand experience with this. My niece was denied of her juice box and crackers when a server noticed them the table. The exact words were 'No outside food. Not allowed.' Understandably that is their policy, but there was no manager to speak with. So, with an upset and crying little girl, we cancled our 5 dish dinner order and left (we didn't want to ruin other patrons dinner). The result - a happy little girl with her juice box, outside of the restaurant, and 4 hungry adults that will never set foot in Sukhothai again. Service is key to a phenomonal dinning experience. Unfortunately, the stern / strict service received at Sukhothai has resulted in a loss of formerly returning customers.
We often go to Sukhothai, it's our favorite Thai place in Ottawa. We've tried several other Thai restaurants and have yet to find one that compares. The food is amazing and more importantly always consistent in the quality and taste. The waitresses are very nice and we know them very well since we go there often. A perfect 10 for us!
excellent service, food was excellent overall rating five star!!
I order take out for dinner often here too and get the Shrimp Red Curry which is out of this world! I love this restuarant. My only complaint was that for lunch we were a group of 6 and all ordered off the lunch menu, except one person who ordered from the full menu which they said was fine to do. That one dish was served easily 10-15 minutes after all the rest of ours.
I don't go to a restaurant for service (it should be reasonable and it is here) I go for the food and you won't find any better. I've had both eat-in and eat-out and my wife and I eat here regularly.
It was delicious and authentic. We have been to many Thai restaurants and we felt this was among the best. The dishes were fresh and flavourful.
The waitress was very helpful with the food selection. Service was quick even with a full restaurant. Every dish we ordered looked good and tasted excellent.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice and the food is amazing. Everyone should try their lunch specials especially their chicken pad thai which is only about $8 and rivals the other Thai restaurants in Ottawa. Excellent place to eat!
Nice ambiance, beautiful decor and excellent food. The Pad Thai is to die for! I definitely would return and I did recommend it to our friends.
