When Jennifer Luck was a biology student at McGill University, her dream was to be a primatologist, chasing monkeys around the jungle like Jane Goodall. So when she graduated, Jennifer packed her bags and flew to Brazil to do just that. But six months later, she discovered that her career path was not destined to be in the rainforest. “I realized that I was a bit more a city girl than I thought, especially once I had to deal with monkey poo!” laughs Jennifer.
Jennifer did find a way to work with primates and the environments they live in, but instead of studying monkeys in the rainforest, she became a naturopathic doctor. “When I returned from Brazil, I applied to the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, hoping that it would be something I liked because it was a marriage between medical and environmental topics with a human focus,” she recalls. From that point on, Jennifer never looked back and loves working as an ND with humans in the concrete jungle of Ottawa, where she she owns the The Somerset Health & Wellness Centre.
