Catering service is lousy. Food is usually in short supply and not enough of expensive items on the menu paid for.l

Best Indian buffet in Ottawa

Consistently impressive Indian buffet. Always fresh and fantastic. My grandmother lives close by and we always go out to eat at this restaurant. I even had my graduation lunch here after I finished university. The atmosphere is clean and beautiful, restaurant is fabulously decorated. The owner is lovely and most of the servers have been there since I can remember; always smiling and on the ball, providing endless water and excellent service. The veggie korma is my absolute favourite ever.

Horrible food - service with attitude

Ate here on Sunday, August 12th for dinner. Horrible service. We wanted to order off the online menu a Meal for four and a Vegetarian meal for two(Nan included with each dinner). Got the attitude, that this would be a huge inconvenience and in fact were told that it was only for takeout. Now please, if something is available for takeout and if you want to properly take care of your customers, this easily could have been prepared and served in house. Reluctantly 5 of the 6 of us gave in to the pressure and settled for the buffet. The other person went without anything. The buffet food was not good. Limited vegetarian choices and many of the other dishes tasted mushy and far too spicy for our tastes. $19.95/person which did not include naan bread or coffee or tea. That is nickel and diming people. Had we been able to order from the menu the dishes we wanted presumably would have been fresh and made to order in regard to heat. Extremely disappointed, will not return and would not recommend this place.

I have come to this restaurant for several years, every time I visit Ottawa. It is certainly one of the best Indian Restaurants in Canada.

Had a great time. I have visited here a couple of times now, and it seems to get better each time. Staff are great, restaurant is beautiful, and the food is always the best. Love it. Tried a lot of places, no one even compares.

I am East Indian (born and raised in Brampton, Ontario - a suburb outside Toronto). Brampton has either the first or second East Indian population in Canada. I am temporarily living in Ottawa. - Service was great. - Food was NOT authentic. What they served as nann was actually tandoori roti. - Not much vegeterian food in the buffet. - Food tasted stale and reheated/refried. - I think frozen indian food actually tastes better.

Excellent - A real restaurant

In this day and age of mass produced ''dry ribs'', wings and nachos, its nice to see a restaurant pursue more traditional food. Interestingly enough its an Indian restaurant! We enjoyed a huge buffet of food, all fresh and varied. No sliced cucumbers and tomatoes here, we're talking real home made salads. The curries were excellent, the usual butter chicken and lamb was all here but it tasted better than usual. The owner explained it was due to the variety of tomato used in the sauce(more on this later). I don't know about you the reader, but I've had lots of Indian, Italian and french. But I can't remember the last time a owner or any restaurant went to the length of importing real antiques from India to adorn their walls. The decor itself is worth at least 2 visits. Yes its that amazing. To top it off, the manager, who turns out to be the owner actually spent time at our table. We also noticed that he made a point of visiting every other table as well. Can't recall the last time I saw this in another restaurant. Big points here as well. Great food, great service and great decor = great value. If you like Indian this place is worth it. Sure you might like the vindaloo more in your corner of the woods somewhere but nowhere will you come across a more complete package.

well after reading that last review I have to say...

well after reading that last review I have to say i am very skeptical of these ''review'' sites. Can anyone review a restaurant including the competition? I have enjoyed MANY meals at East India Company over the years. The food is fresh and the service is fantastic! If this person really did have a problem I would recommend speaking to a manager, I am sure this could have been solved, if the reviewer DID eat at the restaurant which I doubt!

The food was absoloutly discusting. The butter chicken tasted like it had ketchup in it and was unlike any other butter chicken I have had before. I have eaten alot of Indian food, and this was the worst by far that I have ever had. Both the chicken dishes were not made with white meat, and some of the stuff in both dishes I had no idea what it was. I was appauled at the quality and taste of the food, especially for the price.

This was our nth time at this restaurant. Ever since we started coming here in 2001, it has never disappointed us. Yummy food, perfect presentation, lots of pickles and chutneys, fabulous decor, welcoming environment and very friendly staff. And not to mention, all this for a great price.
