Great authentic Mexican food served in huge...

Great authentic Mexican food served in huge portions. Nachos came with black beans, plenty of guacamole, not too much cheese and the salsa bar has some of the best salsa I've ever tasted. The rice and salad were like nothing you can get at big chain mexican restaurants, the enchiladas and burritos were perfect. Standard selection of Mexican beers as well as cocktails. Know if you go, you order your food at the bar and pay up front.

My sister recommended this restaurant, went the other day with my boyfriend. We had a great time. great food, fun simple atmosphere and the best part was that it cost under 25$ for the both of us. Great for students.

One of my Favourites!

You should know going into Ahora that it is one up from takeout. Very casual like being in Mexico. Even though there are waitresses, they are really there to deliver food and bring your drinks only. You order and pay at the bar and they serve it - always with a smile. The food although plainly arranged, is authentic and fresh with a fabulous salsa bar. It can get crowded with university students and get really noisy fast. You can get take out (as we usually do) and call ahead for pickup(their business card is at the cash). Worth finding parking for. Very reasonable prices too.

Very good. the waitress was very nice and explained things to us clearly. and AS IF there's a whole salsa bar! thats a very thoughtful touch. if you can make the trip and are smart enough to find it go. best mexican ive had...ever.

The nachos were very good. The pineapple drink I had was excellent too. But, the taquito - yuck. The chicken pieces tasted (pardon me) like garbage. The spice they put on it was really gross. The waitress was very friendly, though.

Not the usual "mexican" slop found at every other mexican place... if I didn't know any better, I would say that THIS is the real deal: simple, fresh (Real ripe avocado slices in tacos? Are you kidding me!)and most of all not spicy for the sake if being spicy, but actually flavorful (fresh cilantro you can actually see!). This place is like a secret Gem in Ottawa! Veyr yummy, and cheap too!

We stopped in for supper on Thursday May 10th with a friend visiting from Oaxaca, Mexico. It had been two years since we last visited Ahora. We were very disappointed with our meals, two Plato Rancheros (chicken) and one Chicken Enchiladas. The meat was all dark and tough. The Plato Rancheros were especially bad, the meat tasted of too much vinegar or lime. The tomatoes on our plate had hard white flesh. We did not make a fuss in front of our guest. We have enjoyed dining there in the past, but will likely not return. The service was pleasant enough, but it's the food that kept us coming back up until now.

Great food! I love Mexican and this place was a refreshing change from the California/Mexican style food. Reminded me of my trip to Mexico. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired though. 3 words...Cafeteria basement noisy. A place this tasty deserves better. The salsa bar is a great idea but, you get servings in tiny paper cups....what's up with that? Very friendly staff, great food, inexpensive and lots of authentic Mexican touches.

Love the atmosphere - very laid back and fun and a great place to go out to on a Fri or Sat night. I had 2 vegetarian tacos - very simple - just beans, tomatos, avacados and lettuce. The salad was very nice, the dressing was great and unlike anything I have ever tasted before. The salsa bar is great because you can add whatever kinds of salsa to your meal. I walked right up there with my plate -- never mind the paper cups!! Service was friendly, we even got a free margarita! My Mexicola was expensive but was probably 3/4 tequila, so well worth the prize. Bottom line - very fun, very friendly, and pretty decent food too!
