Meet the owner

The floors on the upper level of La Boheme sigh as you walk through hallways that’s been unchanged since 1912, when the building operated as a high end apartment. Connie Comeau, the current owner, opens a door to one of the rooms, and as you step inside, you might as well be entering a different era.

A claw foot tub sits in the bathroom, while an antique couch, refurbished by Connie, occupies one wall of the living area. The back patio is the perfect place, Connie says,  to relax with a glass of wine. “Nearly everything remains the same,” says Connie. “The staircases, the layout of the suites, much of the furniture, even the squeaks in the original hardwood.”

Wonderful Restaurant for a Special Occassion

Went to La Boheme for an anniversairy dinner and it was just fantastic. The food was wonderful, as was the service. This place is a must-visit in Edmonton.

This restaurant is very cozy and located in an elegant heritage building from the turn of the century. It is definitely recommended that you make a reservation; we had tried to go for Valentine's Day but it had been booked two weeks in advance. Now we know why. The menu specializes in French foods with a wine selection to complement it. The food is excellent, especially the desserts. We had the Creme Brulee and Creme Caramel. I did feel that it was slightly over-priced as most of the entrees were priced at $35 and the desserts and entrees started at $10. Our totaly bill was just over $200 including wine and tip. Definitely worth a try if you are wanting a special dining experience.

The ultimate brunches in Edmonton

The Sunday brunch buffet at this bed and breakfast includes a wonderful selection of sweet and savoury treats, such as French toast, crepes with artichokes, wild mushrooms, leeks and sun-dried tomatoes, omelettes and eggs Benedict. The menu rotates and can include the warm Brie, which comes with a pecan and apple salad, striploin with peppercorn sauce and eggs or a homemade puff pastry wrapped around salmon, asparagus and mushrooms, covered in béchamel sauce. Mimosas, Bellinis and fresh orange juice are also available a la carte.

Incroyable! Must-try French bistros in Edmonton

Incroyable! Must-try French bistros in Edmonton

It is situated inside a provincially-designated historical site circa 1912. The French cuisine matches the restaurant’s old world charms. They have the best French onion soup in town, and some killer jumbo shrimp with garlic butter sauce. There’s also Alberta AAA fillet mignon, pork tenderloin medallions and daily fish preparations on the menu. You’ll be so stuffed you might want to reserve a room in the inn upstairs.

Bunk down at a boutique hotel in Edmonton

Bunk down at a boutique hotel in Edmonton

This bed and breakfast, which was originally a luxury apartment building, is a provincially designated historic site. While the building was completed in 1912, La Boheme took over the space in 1982. It’s still considered one of the city’s most unique places to stay, with plenty of historical touches, such as the original Edwardian pressed tin ceiling. There are six suites, each named after a historical figure, and all suites include a claw-foot bathtub in the private bathroom. There’s also a fantastic restaurant onsite.
